Celebrating Careers in Construction Month

Written by Brittany Bachman | Oct 25, 2022 4:31:08 PM

Did you know that according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics the percentage of construction workers who were age 55 and over nearly doubled between 2003 and 2020?  The good news is that there is an enormous need for skilled workers in our country today—and even more so in years ahead as this percentage of workers retire from their jobs. That means that if you want a career where you can make a good wage while building things with your hands, there are ample possibilities.

Unfortunately, many young people do not know about these opportunities or have never considered them as a career path. That’s why Careers in Construction Month was started.  Every October, Careers in Construction Month aims to raise awareness of rewarding careers within construction and combat the growing skilled labor shortage through career exploration fairs and social media campaigns highlighting its importance. As part of this month-long initiative, Boulter participated in a series of career fairs to expose students to a trade career (see photos below).

ROC with your Hands

Early in the month, Boulter joined dozens of employers to participate in the first-ever ROC with your Hands career exploration event.  Students in grades 7-12 from across Monroe County were exposed to careers in manufacturing, skilled trades, and automotive technology.

Careers in Construction Day

On October 20th, Careers in Construction Day returned to the Monroe County Fleet Center to introduce over 1,000 students to the exciting career options that the local construction industry offers in a fun, interactive format.  Boulter brought a series of fun activities to test students problem solving skills.
