Replacing an Old Cooling Tower Helps RIT Enhance Functionality

In a bid to improve efficiency, the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) set out on a project to replace its outdated cooling tower.  Discover how Boulter enhanced functionality by replacing the old unit and installing access ladders and maintenance platforms.

Customer Request

When RIT's existing cooling tower showed signs of deterioration, they turned to Boulter for a comprehensive solution. The old system needed to be replaced and it made sense to address the issue before it became a problem. But the new system had to be completed in time for the start of school in August—and that meant getting it done before students were back on campus.

Solution

To minimize project delays we had the new cooling tower units shipped to our facility until the site was ready.  From there, we successfully transported the new units and replaced the old ones.  To further enhance functionality, access ladders and maintenance platforms were installed by our steel fabrication team.

Project Highlights

  • Stored and transported new cooling tower units to the site, eliminating the need for multiple vendors and saving the customer money
  • Removed the old unit sections and set new steel and unit sections on the roof using a 200-ton crane
  • Installed access ladders and maintenance platforms to enhance functionality
